Commando Availability and Restrictions
The Commando served as an accessible player unit before beta version 3.0.0. Following later game revisions, the unit transitioned to an AI-exclusive role. Standard rosters cannot buy or upgrade into Commando through the regular tech tree. Outside of specific testing servers or receiving explicit access permissions from the developer Anon, standard players cannot add this unit to their custom match setups.
Unlike enemy vehicles, trains, and artillery, you cannot acquire a Commando on the field through surrender mechanics. When an infantry squad drops to zero morale, the game engine routes and destroys the unit instead of shifting it into a capturable neutral state. Consequently, your interaction with Commandos during standard play focuses on facing them in high-difficulty missions or utilizing them if a specific campaign level pre-deploys them under your command.
AI Squad Appearances and Map Variants
Enemy forces deploy Commandos on advanced campaign scenarios. Missions set to Tryhard mode replace standard enemy Grunts with Commandos, and the Rigged game modifier systematically swaps enemy riflemen and Grunt variations for Commando squads.
Advanced Commando subtypes appear in designated challenge scenarios:
- Commando H: An upgraded squad deployed exclusively in the Rigged mode of Forge Moria. This variant carries assault rifles, an RPG for anti-armor damage, and features boosted health and defensive stats.
- Commando H+: An elite infantry formation composed of three soldiers in a triangular arrangement, found only within the Rigged mode of Enroll Desertion. Equipped with assault rifles, a sniper rifle, and an RPG, this squad functions as the second most durable infantry profile behind the General.
Unit Mechanics and Combat Perks
A base Commando operates with three soldiers in formation, consisting of an assault rifleman, a field combat medic, and a rear radioman. The unit operates with four distinct built-in perks:
- Healing: Commando squads restore 25 percent of their total health at the start of their active turn, removing the requirement to remain tethered to supply trucks.
- Ambush: Grants the unit the opening strike when attacked by enemy infantry, provided the Commando did not execute an attack on the preceding turn. On Commando H and H+, this priority strike applies strictly to assault rifle engagements, not secondary RPG or sniper rounds.
- Radio: Calls down supporting fire from allied naval or artillery guns against enemy positions within a 2-tile radius.
- Capture: Permits the squad to claim hostile structures and neutral equipment across the map.
Commando H+ adds the Multi Attack perk, enabling the squad to execute two separate attack actions during a single turn.
Tactical Counters Against Commando Formations
Facing Commando squads requires engaging outside their reactive range to avoid triggering defensive passives and incoming artillery strikes.
| Unit Option | Target Situation | Deployment Consideration |
|---|---|---|
| Armored Vehicle | Firing heavy cannons from outside infantry range | Keeps distance beyond assault rifle and support radio range |
| Sniper Team | Eliminating hostile squad members across diagonal lines | Outranges assault rifle response but requires frontline protection |
| Combat Aircraft | Striking entrenched squads across rough terrain | Completely safe from retaliatory fire because Commandos cannot target air units |
Because Commando H and Commando H+ possess no anti-aircraft or anti-ship weaponry, aerial strikes and naval bombardments can eliminate them without taking return damage. Ground forces should engage from a distance of four tiles to avoid RPG retorts and prevent the Commando radioman from guiding heavy artillery strikes onto allied positions. Urban structures, mountain passes, and bunker tiles provide defense bonuses to these squads, making long-range explosive weapons the safest method for clearing them from defensive positions.
